The Private Pilot License (PPL)

The PPL is typically the 1st license that any pilot needs to get.

Requirements

  • 40 hours of Ground School (In-person or Online). Provides pilot general knowledge and prepares you for the Transports Canada PPL Written Exam.
    Subjects covered:
    • Flight Theory
    • Aircraft engines and systems
    • Weather
    • Navigation
    • Air Law
    • Human Factors
    • and more!
  • 45 hours of total flight experience, including 12 hours of solo flight under supervision. Minimums are set by Transport Canada. Students typically need more hours, depending on their commitment and regularity, to get ready and successfully pass the Flight Test.
    The Canadian average is around 70h.

The Commercial Pilot License (CPL)

The CPL is the minimum license that you will need to work as a pilot.

  • 80 hours of Ground School (Online). Provides advanced general knowledge and prepares you for the Transports Canada CPL Written Exam.
  • 200 hours of total flight experience (including those already acquired during PPL training), including 100 hours of solo flight and another 35h of flight with an instructor.
